What We Do

Kawangware Kids helps children living in the slums in Nairobi, Kenya to a better future by providing them with both a high quality education and the extra support they need to be successful. Scroll down to learn about what we do to achieve this goal:

We pay for school

This covers all costs including: tuition, room & board, transportation, textbooks, uniforms, school supplies and incidentals.

We staff a center in the Kawangware

Our center is a safe place for our kids to hang out, study, get fed and have fun.

we pay for tutoring

Being in the classroom is not enough for our students -they need more to be successful.  Kawangware Kids pays for after-school and between term tutoring to cover any subjects our students are struggling with.

we TEach computer skills

Computer skills are vitally important to our children, not only to make them viable in the economy in the future, but to help them succeed with their classwork today.

we partner with parents

Unfortunately, about half our children do not have parental support, but for those that do, we partner closely with them.  The more support a child receives, the more they can achieve.

We Care for their well-being

There are many challenges associated with living in the slums, from unstable family systems to infectious disease.  We step in where we can: providing fostering, paying for medical care, speaking directly with families and just being an advocate for each child.

We Have FUn!

We do our best to bring some fun to these kids lives and broaden their perspectives.  Some of these children have never been outside of the slums, so we take them on field trips.  In the pictures below, the girls were trying out new and exotic foods like: olives, salsa and hummus.
